From Provence we headed to the Burgundy Region. We traveled on the toll road which runs north-south in the middle of France.

Our home base in Beaune is Hotel La Villa Fleurie is run by Madame Chartier. We have a short walk to old town center.

Along with many wine tasting shops, Hotel Dieu is a major tourist attraction.
This place was built in 1493 and is not a hotel but a
hospice hospital for the terminally ill.
He was a Chancellor of Burgundy and felt he had to do something for his people so he built this place.
The ward had 30 beds with 2 patients to a bed in the paupers' section.
Beds line each side of the main hall facing the chapel alter.
Nuns cared for the patients.
During Church services the curtain was open so all patients could participate.
The hospital closed in 1971 and is now a museum.
Be thankful for modern medicine.
