Port of Toledo Wooden Boat Show including the Northwest Steam Society
Toledo is 7 miles inland from Newport and supports a saw mill.
The 14th annual event to observe the use of steam to power boats and automobiles.
Each wooden boat has a unique story to tell.
Early Stanley Steamer used steam to power this vehicle,
built between 1902-1924 in Massachusetts.
Free boat rides of your choice.
Local couple demonstrate the use of a canon powered by air pressure.
Children were shown how to load the canon with a potato and fire it across the water.
Each child received a special prize.
Highlight of the day was the Containerboard Boat Race.
All boats had to be made out of cardboard and awards were given to
the most spectacular sinking.
Decorated boats ready for launch. Race drivers dressed in costume.
Number 33 sunk just after launch.
Good sinking might have won the prize but.....
Each racer had to swim back to the starting point with boat.
