The Chateau de Mores is the 26 room home built by the French town founder
 for his American wife Medora.

The town founder also built a meat packing plant which processed meat from cattle ranches and shipped the product to east coast customers.
The plant burned down and is now a town park.

Theodore Roosevelt, before becoming our 26th President, came to the Badlands
in 1883.  He was interested in the cattle business and became a partner in the Maltese Cross Ranch.

This cabin was his first ranch residence in Medora area.
His main home was in New York.

In 1898 he organized the first volunteer Cavalry group that fought in the Spanish American war.  Roosevelt became a war hero during the
battle of San Juan Hill.
His popularity helped him become President from 1901-1907.
