Northern Outer Banks, North Carolina

Brodie Island is the northern part of the Outer Banks.

The Brodie Island Lighthouse is the gateway to the Island.

The Bridge from Manteo, Roanoke Island leads to
a large commercial area and homes at Nags Head.

A kite festival ongoing at a local beach park.

Kill Devil Hills is next door to Kitty Hawk where
the Wright Brothers Memorial is located.

On December 17, 1903 Orville and Wilber Wright
made the first four powered successful human flights.

Replicas of the 1903 hangar and quarters/workshop for
their power driven airplane.

First flight boulders marking the historic four flights.

12 seconds 120 ft.
12 seconds 175 ft.
15 seconds 200 ft.
59 seconds 852 ft. at tree line.

Wright Brother's Monument.  The 60 ft.
monument on top of Kill Devil Hill honors their
accomplishments of the first powered flight.

View of flight path with hanger/workshop. Imagine
this area was sand not grass in 1903.

The brothers picked this area because of the
reliable wind currents.

Up the road is the Currituck Beach Lighthouse which
still serves as an aid to navigation.  The tower built in 1875 is
162 ft. in height and contains more than one million bricks.

At the end of highway 12, wild horses of Corolla
roam the beaches.

The horses are descendants of Spanish Colonial
Mustangs for almost 5 centuries.
