Winston-Salem and Lexington, North Carolina

The Historic Bethabara Park in Winston-Salem is
where the first Moravian settlement was founded.

The Moravian Church is a Protestant denomination
tracing its roots to a Czech priest in 1415.
The church moved to Germany and then
to North Carolina about 1753.

Gemeinhaus is the only German Colonial Church
with living quarters remaining in USA.

Greek Revival style 1816 log home.

Nearby, Lexington, North Carolina's claim to fame
is 15 barbecue restaurants which feature a sweeter, smokier
and juicier style flavored pork.

The Lexington BBQ restaurant is one of the favorite spots in town.

The outside wood fired ovens were cooking the
meat to form a crunchy crust or "bark".

BBQ is served finely chopped, sliced or coarsely chopped.
The pork shoulder is not pulled.  The base sauce is
ketchup and vinegar.

The coleslaw or "barbecue slaw" uses the same ketchup
and vinegar base.

The sandwich plate comes with BBQ meat, slaw, French fries and hushpuppies.

Hushpuppies are made from cornmeal and deep fried.

Fast and friendly service for the lunch crowd.
