Dead Horse Point State Park is near Canyonlands National Park.
In the 1500's Spanish Explorers introduced horses to this area.
Three hundred years later Cowboys found herds of mustangs running free
on the Mesa top. During roundups a few horses died.
At the visitor's center you are surprised with a view of solar evaporation ponds.
This commercial venture produces plant fertilizer from a local potash mine. Solar power is used in the operation to dry the potash salt water.
A 20 ton scraper guided by laser beams harvest the dry salt product.
The Colorado Overlook shows the river 2,000 ft. below.
The river starts at 9,000 ft. level in the Colorado Rocky Mountains
and flows 1,450 miles through Utah and Arizona.
