Medieval monks and powerful dukes of Burgundy established Beaune's prosperity.
The monks took care of the wine and cheese business
and the dukes became rich and powerful.
A ring road started the foundation of the medieval walls of the town.
The populations is now 22,000 people.
This is what is left of the medieval walls.
Beaune is one of the little wine capital of France.
The town is also known for Hotel Dieu des Hospices de Beaune.
This medieval charity hospital is now a museum. The Hundred Years War
and the plague devastated Beaune. In 1443 this place was built comfort the victims.
The last patient died in 1971.
The back side of the hospital shows the tile roof.
Walk through the town with several shops and outdoor restaurants.
Clock tower in city center.
Town center
Decorative tile roofing.
Unusual deco on wall which must mean something.
Only color we saw in town.
Movie made in town in 1966 about the hospital.
The front of the hospital at that time had the colorful tile roof.
Our B&B on the edge of the town. Very formal inside with antiques. A young couple just purchased it from the lady we knew from previous visit.
He updated all the bathrooms and are quite plush.
Please note we almost forgot about Beaune. We visited this town before Equisheim.
