Colmar maybe one of the most beautiful cities in the Alsace Region. It is full of half timbered old homes with red and green tiled roofs and many cobbled streets.
The Market Hall located in old town within "Petite Venise" neighborhood.
A gondola full of vegetables greets your at the front door.
Inside vendors sell meat, produce and goodies including Bretzels, a large soft pretzel popular with locals.
In ancient times the canal was built to bring water for the tanners and transport farm products to market.

Customs House was used to sort out trade issues years ago.
The Tanners' Quarter buildings were used in the 17th and 18th century to dry tanned animal hides. Note the many gutters where the hides were placed in the sun.
Local dancers continue to celebrate their heritage.

Colmar is the home town of the sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi.
You will know him for the Statue of Liberty.
There are two copies in France......Paris and Colmar.
