Entering Germany to Staufen

We crossed over the Rhein River to southern Germany into the Black Forest region.

The river originates in the Swiss Alps and flows through Germany to the
North Sea at the Netherlands.

Riverboats tied up waiting for a new group of travelers.

Our B&B for the week is Gastehaus Kaltenbach about 10 minute walk up hill from Staufen town center

The Kaltenbach family home was built about 1909.

The homestead is on a big piece of property with a barn and horses.

We stayed in one of their six rooms.

Nice bed covers over comforters.

Buffet breakfast each morning.

Early family distillery

New equipment in the barn to make Schnapps.

Schnapps is a strong alcohol colorless drink made from fruit or herbs.  Some fruit choices are cherry, apple, plum and pear.  This fermenting batch is pear called
Poire Williams.

The product is distilled twice from 80% to 42% proof.  The family bottles their own label.
