Water Street Rockport, Texas

Returning to Water Street neighborhood, we found several improvements this year.

A new road leads to a recently constructed fishing pier to the left.

The three houses to the right date back to 1868 when prominent Rockport families lived on Old Beach Road.  The waterfront street was originally paved with white crushed shells.

In 1919 a hurricane caused a 10 ft. surge and only these homes survived.

Beautiful seascape along this one mile road with walk & bike path.

The water level is less than 2 ft.in most areas out to the San Jose Island.
This kayaker has a long walk ahead of him.

White pelicans enjoying the calm waters.

The Water Street neighborhood had a new addition.  This house has it's own boat garage and RV pole barn in the front yard.

Homeowners on back streets must work hard for Gulf view.
Neighbors seem to outdo each other building observation decks.

The pink/purple lady is finally finished this year.

Old Town Rockport, Texas

Rockport was established in 1867 as a shipping point for goods made in Texas.
Early on it was a center for shipbuilding and a popular spot for bay fishing.

Today Old Town main street is lined with art galleries, funky shops and a few restaurants.  Summer months bring tourists from the north for the beaches and shopping.  Winter season attracts RVers like us for the milder climate.

This shop displays the colors and Lone Star of the Texas Flag.

A kite shop to take on the gulf breezes.

Funky Zebra and Flying Pig
are some unusual shop names that attract the shoppers.

Historic Building built in 1886 is now the site of an art gallery.

Might be an old Willey's convertible.

Do we need to say more.... Long term wife insurance.... banner at Victoria's Jewerly Store.

Port Aransas, Texas Ship Canal and Beach

Ten miles southwest of Rockport, we ferried over the ship canal to Port Aransas.

A Great Egret stood watch over the fishermen at the jetty.

A lone RV dry camping on the State Beach. The owners were sitting outside with their cat enjoying the water view.

Near the ship canal, people were enjoying the sunny afternoon walking their dogs, collecting seashells and searching for valuable items with a metal detector.

A large ship entering the Corpus Christi Bay.

Popular place to fish off the jetty.  Huge blocks of granite possibly came from Marble Mountain in Marble Falls, TX.  You might recall our story on the granite mining operation.

Lagoons Campground Rockport, Texas

From Kerrville, Texas we moved 250 miles south to Rockport on the Gulf of Mexico at the Coastal Bend of Texas.

Welcome to our new neighborhood for next few months at Lagoons RV Park. Statues of jumping dolphins in a fountain greet you at the entrance.

Winter visitors add personal decorations to their sites.
