Luckenbach, Texas

We revisited Luckenbach due to the popularity of our prior story.

Country Lane to the Hamlet....population 3.

In 1970 Hondo Crouch & two other people purchased this settlement consisting of a Post Office, General Store and outbuildings on 10 acres of land
with oak trees and two creeks.

He created an entertainment venue by holding
crazy events to draw crowds and country singers.

Tourists flock to the Post Office and General Store
to purchase souvenirs bearing the Luckenbach brand.

Interior doorway to Hondo's bar where musicians play their favorite tunes.

Hondo's portrait guarded by Miz Kitty....the boss of the store.

Picnic area shaded by large oak trees next to the Dance Hall.

Entrance to Hondo's bar where you step into Country Western music history.

Memorabilia of past entertainers.

No Smokin in this bar....Purdy Pleez

Quiet weekday....lunch crowd.

Main attraction is the dance hall where Country Western music is center stage.

Events are scheduled every weekend through year end.

Prior entertainers have included Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.

"Back to Basics of Love" and "Let's Go to Luckenbach,Texas"
were songs which made Luckenbach famous.

Thanks Hondo for creating a special place for Western Country Music.

Roswell, New Mexico

Roswell, New Mexico is a city of 14,000 people located
in the Pecos Valley at the southern end of the Rocky Mountains.
The former Walker Air Force Base was part of the community.

The date of July 4, 1947 may have recognized the town as
the UFO hot spot of the world.

Reports of a flying saucer had crashed near Roswell.

Crash site where debris, strange instruments and alien bodies were found.

Was it a UFO or a Weather Balloon?
This question has been a continuing debate.

More than 2.6 million people have visited this downtown
Museum since it's opening in 1992.

The city's tourism income has increased $15.6 million a year.

The downtown business have joined in to create UFO atmosphere.

Rancher Mac Brazel found the debris field on July 5th.  He gathered
some evidence and took it to the local Sheriff.
He knew it was not a weather balloon.

A Military officer at the Airbase issued a press release
informing the public about the UFO recovery.

July 9 cover up story issued by base General stating
it was just debris from a weather balloon.

Museum wall posting affidavits of witnesses describing space craft and aliens.

People stated two to four aliens with gray skin, hairless, no teeth, big eyes,
not human, wearing silver suits and helmets.

One alien was alive.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Hispanic Culture thrives in Santa Fe, NM.

Old town has several of the oldest buildings in America.

The City of Santa Fe is the oldest capital in the United States.

Spanish explorers established their Provincial capital in 1610.

De Vargas Street House is one of the oldest buildings in America.

The foundation was built by ancient Indian Pueblo dating around 1200.

Today the house is a museum with a gift shop.

San Miguel Church is the oldest Church structure in USA. Original adobe walls and alter were built by Tlaxcalan Indians from Mexico about 1610.

The chapel's high windows and thick walls provided
a fortress against Indian attacks.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi was built in 1869.

Reminiscent of Romanesque cathedrals in France.

Many shops, boutiques, art galleries and outdoor vendors attract the tourists.

A popular tourist attraction is the Loretto Chapel built in 1873.

Inside the small chapel is a spiral staircase which seems to defy gravity as it makes two complete 360 degree turns with no central support.

 Originally built with no handrails.

A mystery surrounds the unknown old carpenter who vanished after
building the staircase. He used hardwood not native to the area.

The Palace of the Governors located on one side of the Santa Fe Plaza. The building was built 1612 and housed governments under Spanish, Mexican and American Rule.  It is the oldest public building in the United States.

Talented Native American artists sell their jewelry inside the building walkway.

The building is a museum with preserved  Mexican Governor's office.

Busy Plaza with flowers and music.

Surrounding the Plaza are colorful vendor outdoor shops.
