Roanoke Island, North Carolina

At the Atlantic Coast, we stayed at
Wanchese, Roanoke Island south of Manteo.

At Manteo there is a bridge crossing to the Outer Bank Islands.

Wanchese has a commercial harbor known as
Thicket Lump Marina.

The economy has recently improved to the point that
Bayliner and other boat builders have hired about 300 new employees.

Manteo is a walkable century old town on Roanoke Island.

The historic waterfront has a boardwalk around the harbor.

Restaurants and unique shops dot the town.

Neighborhoods near the waterfront have quaint Cape Cod homes.

Across  Currituck Sound, Nags Head has many new homes and condos
crowded together on Bodie Island, Outer Banks.

The Elizabeth II is modeled after 16th century sailing
vessels that carried passengers in 1584 and 1587 from England to
establish a Colony on Roanoke Island.
