Canyonlands is a wilderness of rock in the center of the Colorado Plateau.
President Johnson designated it a National Park in September 1964.
Green River overlook at 6,000 ft. The river starts in Wyoming and joins the Colorado River 20 miles from this area.
Island in the Sky viewpoint is the highest and
northern most section of the park.
Water and gravity carved the rock into hundreds of
canyons, buttes, arches, fins and spires.
The views show 100 miles of canyons.
At Grand View Point Overlook, you can see the
first layer of rock which is 1,400 ft. deep.
