Paduca, Kentucky

At this point, we have traveled three quarters
of the way across the United States.



 

The Mississippi River flows 2,340 miles from
northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.
 

Crossed the Mississippi River heading to Kentucky.

 

 

Paducah, Kentucky is located at the confluence of the

Ohio and Tennessee Rivers.



 

 Paducah founded in 1827 by William Clark of the

Lewis & Clark Expedition.

 

 

The city is protected from flooding by the rivers

with a floodwall. 

 



 

About 50 murals adorn the inside wall

depicting the history of the city.

1905 Market House where early settlers brought

their goods to market.

 





 

In the 1940's the town was bustling with activity. 

 

Artist Robert Dafford and his team did a

tremendous job on the murals.

 

 In 1937, the town had a disastrous flood. Later on 
 the city built the floodwall.  Good planning as in
 2011 the river rose 55 ft. above flood stage. 

 

 The river front park is a nice feature. Tug moving up the Tennessee River.

 

 

The Old Market House is now a museum which has

 exhibits and artifacts from Paducah's past.  

 

 

Several historic alleys with restaurants and shops.

 

 

 

 Wow....this is the best highway rest stop we have seen!

The Whitehaven Welcome Center is a restored 1860's

Southern Mansion.
