Troglodyte Cave near Les Eyzies de Tayac, France

Medieval cave dwellings were built in the side of a cliff overlooking the
Vezere River.  Five terraces were carved by people here for 55,000 years.

This reproduction shows history goes back to AD 976 for people
to be able to keep safe from Viking raiders.

This entire village had butcher, bakers, jail and church.

This is quite a climb up  five stories.

Developed a religion with a church.

Equipment used to recreate the structures in the 1960's.

Moving room to room through the village.

Jail used by prehistoric people to keep law and order.

Weapons used for protection and hunting.

Kitchen and dinning hall.

Protecting family from bear.

This is the largest Troglodyte in Europe.
Younger version is in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado.
