Turckheim, France

Tuckheim village is along the Alsace Wines Route.

It is a picturesque square with garden filled moat.
It's 13th century walls are some of the oldest in  the region.

France gate.  Nice village to wander around.

Enter the medieval garden with flowers and vegetables.

WWII museum with photos of the city of Colmar
when American took back Alsace back from the Nazis.

Beaune, France

Medieval monks and powerful dukes of Burgundy established Beaune's prosperity.
The monks took care of the wine and cheese business
and the dukes became rich and powerful.

A ring road started the foundation of the medieval walls of the town.

The populations is now 22,000 people.

This is what is left of the medieval walls.

Beaune is one of the little wine capital of France.

The town is also known for Hotel Dieu des Hospices de Beaune.
This medieval charity hospital is now a museum.  The Hundred Years War
and the plague devastated Beaune. In 1443 this place was built comfort the victims.
The last patient died in 1971.

The back side of the hospital shows the tile roof.

Walk through the town with several shops and outdoor restaurants.

Clock tower in city center.

Town center

Decorative tile roofing.

Unusual deco on wall which must mean something.

Only color we saw in town.

Movie made in town in 1966 about the hospital.
The front of the hospital at that time had the colorful tile roof.

Our B&B on the edge of the town. Very formal inside with antiques. A young couple just purchased it from the lady we knew from previous visit.
He updated all the bathrooms and are quite plush.

Please note we almost forgot about Beaune.  We visited this town before Equisheim.

Eguisheim, France

Next stop Equisheim located in the Alsace's Wine Route.

This is France's smallest wine region which includes 102 small towns and villages.
We are close to Germany and 300 miles from Paris.

Our B&B is a 5 minute walk to town.

The home is nicely decorated and includes this 100 year old
ceramic wood burning unique heater.

View from the front of house to village. Grapevines in neighborhood.

View from their backyard.  There are only 90 miles of vineyards in this area.

Overview from top of vineyards to town.

Village is packed with beautiful flowers everywhere.

Store of many homemade cookies.

In 2013 Equisheim was named France's favorite town.

Church in center of village with 1500 people.

Roussillon, France

The village of Roussillon is in the high hills of Luberon of the Provence area..
Ochre colors in the earth landscape gives this area the reddish & yellow colors.

Ochre was mined here to produce a coloring agent for products.

It is 80% sand and 20% ochre.

As you can see all the buildings have the ochre colors.

Small village on top of ochre cliffs with many restaurants and views that bring the tourists.

Ochre colors are unique on the buildings.

Colors are used for paint and in 19th century found it good thickening agent for rubber.

Colors used on garage door.

It took about a 40 minute walk to reach the top of the cliff where the church is located.

Simple church with very little color.

Very decorated cemetery,
